  Elemental Breakdown Evaluation of the Optimum Thermal Performance Building Models Relative to Geographical Location

Abstrak : The elemental breakdown, the key finding for tropical building design improvement, is the choice of thermal performance analysis strongly influenced by local factors (geographical location differences). In order to improve the sustainability of tropical dwellings, it is desirable to maximize the utilization of the elemental breakdown evaluation role on the building envelope by passive means. This paper presents an elemental breakdown testing of optimum building models, made of two different approaches: ventilation performance and building heat response. The environmental simulation programs for accounting methods, namely AIOLOS and ARCHIPAK, were performed for assessing thermal performance, both for opening air flow and elemental heat flow (gain or loss), for the construction of a building envelope. Finally, all numbers (building elements) were compared in a unique balance, through hourly heat flow rates. Moreover, outcomes were obtained for two scenarios models to two geographic locations (upland and lowland region) and the roof for that location obtains better result than the others with up to 1000 dekaWatt-hours in average of heat loss. Results highlighted that performances of building envelopes depend on element configuration and dimension, material properties and its construction, and the relative period of heat flow to external climate conditions. The difference of environmental location models provided outcomes with some differences that are not contradictory to each other but complementary.
